During the October 5th Arcata city council meeting, president of Humboldt State University Rollin Richmond spoke out against medicinal use of cannabis, contradicting most scientific findings and traditional wisdom.His goal? To convince the Arcata city council to remain silently complicit while the University Police Department enforces HSU’s “zero tolerance” cannabis policy on targeted segments of the ARCATA population (not just campus).

Richmond suggests more police.

The issues of medical marijuana and the legalization of marijuana need to be taken to the federal level. When people are educated in regards to the fraud that is the drug war and the reasons why weed was made illegal in the first place then laws can start to be changed. Right now there's an abundance of ignorance and money which feed the drug war, the word "marijuana" is a buzz word which like all buzz words shuts off the brain and gets the adrenaline pumping.
I wish I could change the system but before I can do that I have to change myself....we all need to change ourselves (some more than others) before we can change things. Follow the money, keep fighting, change tactics if need be.

encourage all of you to take a little trip to Humboldt county. It is, as I have told many, unlike any other part of the country. Arcata is full of homeless people who have made the difficult trip through the Redwood Curtain for the express purpose of finding unlimited pot to smoke. These ‘citizens’ smoke, sleep, panhandle and have sex in public places. They have taken over the town square despite efforts to remove them. Arcata, once a pretty little town with ‘high’ ideals, is no longer a safe and peaceful place to live. Many of the ‘harmless’ pot growers have weapons, as do many of those who wish to rip them off. And more and more gang-types from the Bay Area have taken up part-time residence in the county to get in on the action.
Walk down the street in Arcata, and then ask youself if you would want to stay there. Unless your main reason for existance is to smoke pot, I believe your answer would be ‘no’.
And Arcata is the tip of the iceberg. Go into the mostly rural part of this county and you can see for yourself what is going on. House after house tucked back in the hills, many or most with growing and processing rooms, many with marijuana growing in the open with a permit to grow posted alongside. The ‘legal’ 99 plants are in the open and the rest are hidden in the barn or the attic.
People who have been convicted of growing and distributing sit on some of the town boards. These folks are not going to be interested in cracking down on illegal activities.
I wish a major news network would conduct a thorough investigation of where the money comes from in Humboldt county. It would shock and amaze.
