Critical Analysis of the "Arcata Eye"

CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF ARCATA NEWS, OCTOBER 10, 2006

by Cash ULT

In his story, "People & Grizz 1,Tad 0 in tethering challenge – Oct. 10, 2006," Kevin Hoover cites the eveidence brought before Humboldt County Court that clearly demonstrates that Arcata's dog-tethering ordinance is selectively enforced against homeless people, then declares a "victory" when Humboldt County Superior Court Judge Dale A. Reinholtsen rules in favor of the police.

Ironically, Hoover insinuates that Griz the dog also shares in this celebration of bigotry, inspite of the fact that this particular form of bigotry could spell his doom. Griz has never expressed any elation that might support Hoover's ridiculous assertations.

Unsurprisingly, Hoover has used his "newspaper" to distort reality and attempt to rile up more classist bigotry against local activist, tad.

My advice: don't believe the hype.

Have you seen the Wikipedia? Hoover's admirerer/alter-ego Metatree and a couple of fake users managed to get "The Plazoid" page deleted.

Tad's not your typical homeless person. Griz's opinion doesn't matter either way. When 2008 comes I will be elected mayor and it will become illegal for homeless to have dogs. The dogs of homeless people will be then confiscated, put up for adoption by a housed family. If the animals aren't adopted the animals will be euthanized. There will also be a massive campaign called "Forced Hygenics" in which homeless people will be abducted off the street, bathed and shaven against their will and then released 20 miles from the nearest town. Combined these two anti-vagrant campaigns will clean up Humboldt county and thus attract wealthy retirees and developers.

The dog likes being tied to a post in the rain while Tad makes his TV appearances at City Hall. Just ask Tad.

First an utterly lame "CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF ARCATA NEWS", then no reaction to a comment about Griz being "tied to a post in the rain".

Plazoid, you are so mentally impotent in your criticism of Hoover and the Eye, if you aren't Hoover himself you might as well be.

to angry anonymous:
I suppose you would prefer that Tad lock his dog up in a car? Or perhaps deprive him of any contact with the natural world whatsoever? Were you there when Griz was out in the rain? did he shiver? or whimper?

It seems to me that it is your analysis that is lacking. In fact, all that you said was that I didn't comment part of the article that really had nothing to do with the contested issue anyways. Unless, of course, you are insinuating that dogs should not be allowed to be in the rain.

And then, of course, you resort to name-calling. That does not cut it as "analysis."

Read the 12:51 comment again, Plazoid. Show us where the "name calling" is. They said you are "mentally impotent". That is not a name, it's a simple statement of truth.

You couldn't analyze anything to save your life. Your mind is confused, weak and irrational.

You write:

"...all that you said was that I didn't comment part of the article that really had nothing to do with the contested issue anyways.

Blatantly false. 12:51 said no such thing. Read the comment again and try to understand it. They never said you didn't comment on "part of the article". They simply said you were lame not to respond to the October 30 comment which was sarcastically criticizing Tad for leaving Griz out in the rain.

And yet you interpreted it in exactly the opposite way it was meant. You took it as more criticism of Tad, when in fact it was criticing you for NOT defending him in this instance, and for your general lameness and impotence in dealing with Hoover.

In response to anonymous:

In your comment, you asked me to "Show us where the 'name calling' is."

It is here: "if you aren't Hoover himself you might as well be."

You are right in saying that accusing me of being "mentally impotent" is not "name-calling." It is, however, childish (not in a good way) and meaningless.

You accusation of "falsehood" also misses the mark. The 12:51 anonymie did not write much, but definitely did express dissatisfaction with my lack of response to part of the Arcata Eye's article, specifically, the "comment about Griz being 'tied to a post in the rain.'" If the comment was meant sarcastically, I guess I missed it.

The last paragraph of your argumentive "comment is hard to understand. I'm just not sure what you are saying. Perhaps you would care to elaborate?

Anonymous said...

Sure, the last paragraph refers to the October 30 comment, as the paragraph before it clearly indicates. The October 30 comment says:

"The dog likes being tied to a post in the rain while Tad makes his TV appearances at City Hall. Just ask Tad."

Regarding Griz, it is this sarcastic October 30 comment, not anything in the article, that is being referred to in the subsequent comments. I think that's where the confusion lies.

But it's not worth arguing about, so how 'bout we let sleeping dogs lie too. ;)

Plazoid: In your comment, you asked me to "Show us where the 'name calling' is."
It is here: "if you aren't Hoover himself you might as well be."

Okay, I stand corrected. I did call you a dirty name. I'm sorry.

the PLAZOID said...

oops. I made a mistake.

I had thought that the "dog in the rain" comment was referring to a comment made in the Arcata Eye article, but now I see my mistake.

As for the analysis of the Eye article, there still has not been any counterpoints made by supporters of the Eye coverage. Just meaningless insults.

Anonymous said...

Meaningless insults... you mean like Tad calling people Nazis all the time?

Oh, I forgot - Tad can do no wrong. Even tying up his ""best friend" in the rain for hours is somehow a good thing. Why? Cuz it's Tad!

response to "anonymous":

When Tad and other social justice advocates use the term "nazi" to point out similarites between the rise of fascism in Europe during the 1930's and 40's and trends toward fascism in today's society, they are not "meaningless isults."

and others...

As for "Tad can do no wrong," I disagree. I believe that tad, just like the rest of us, makes mistakes sometimes. This blog, however, does not exist for the purpose of picking on Tad, or Kevin Hoover (of the Arcata Eye), or even Rollion Richmond (who has stated at a public meeting that homeless people just don't fit into society and suggests more police to, well, do what police do).

Still no response to the critique of the Arcata Eye article and it's lack of intraspective ability and willingness to pick on Tad to individual demonize.

Thank you for your comment.

You pontificating, well-fed bastards who call yourselves "homeless advocates" always have cigarettes, dogs, shelter, websites... all the conveniences.

You suck up the donations intended for really homeless people, then sit around smoking, surfing websites and calling the donors Nazis. Nice racket.

In response to angry "anonymous":

Your misguided anger only harms you. Let me straighten a few things out for you so that you may begin the healing process.

After begrudging those of us who have shelter, dogs, and cigarettes, you state, "You suck up the donations intended for really homeless people, then sit around smoking, surfing websites and calling the donors Nazis."

This statement is factually inaccurate. I know that Tad works. I work. In fact, many impoverished and homeless people are working, many of them full-time.

As for donations, once again, false.

And the website? It's free. You can have one too! I don't even own a computer.

As for the use of the term "nazi," when social justice advocates use the term "nazi" to point out similarites between the rise of fascism in Europe during the 1930's and 40's and trends toward fascism in today's society, they are not "meaningless isults."

Also, my existance is not a "racket." I don't know you and do not accuse you of running a racket, but perhaps you should analyze your own life and where your sustenance comes from before slinging meanness and insults around recklessly.

Have a nice day.

Another response to similar angry anonymous commentor:

Again, I work. So who exactly are you criticizing?

Note: Do not confuse my willingness to take a job as condonign the wage-labor system. I only mention it to point out the inaccuracy of your assumptions in hopes that you might reevaluate your condemnations and feelings of unwarranted anger.

If you really are upset about the mis-use of "welfare" money, then your time would be better spent looking at the corporate sector instead of angrily condemning people who DON"T EVEN RECIEVE GOVERNEMENT ASSISTANCE!

and by the way, I don't own a computer out of choice. I only mentioned that I didn't have one to put to rest your concern that I was spending too much money doing this website. This website costs nothing. $0. Too much time, perhaps. But not too much money. Thank you for your concern.

Peace be with you.

I don't need to be defended. If Griz is in the rain it means I'm in the rain. He would rather be tied to my vehicle (bike or board, under the awning of the city hall, while I redress my grievances, then stuck in death row at the new, super expensive, doggy Auschwitz.

As far as calling the fascist, eugenicists "Nazis" -
THEIR NAZIS!!!!!!!

Mental health was a fascist, eugenics concept called "mental hygiene." Genetics was called "eugenics." Bush (who has strong family ties to the Nazis) put into policy initiatives (see my comments on the "plazoid" parking lot story) that are the same roundup laws used by the Nazis. But now instead of sterilizing the non-round up resistant, they force them (the poor, the young, and the old)on drugs that have proved to shorten life, reduce reproduction, and create an entire "medical killing" institution called "mental health."(see: The Nazi Doctors: medical killing and the psychology of genocide," by Robert Jay Lifton)

The complete control of the government by the wealthiest is called fascism. Fascist, especially fascist governments, tend to support eugenics. Consider the Rockefeller foundation and its support of both fascism and eugenics prior to, and throughout WWII (and still today).

Local governments, like during the rise of the Nazis, support and implement the fascist eugenic "initiatives."

Even little jr. fascists run around the net red bating with argumentum ad hominem attacks.

Unsurprisingly, Hoover has used his "newspaper" to distort reality and attempt to rile up more classist bigotry against local activist, tad.

That's Hoover alright. Kevin Hoover's problem is that he basically despises people who are morally superior to him -- especially if they speak out publicly, and with intelligence. That's why he hates Tad, Meserve, Ornelas and many others. Deep down, Hoover knows they're far better men than he is, and it makes him very angry. Their very existence on the public stage makes him uncomfortably aware of his smallness, meanness and shallowness.

So he uses his bourgeois, artsy fartsy "news" paper as a political weapon to destroy any public person who intelligently criticizes and contests the mainstream propaganda that saturates the corporate mass media.
