Arcata cop tazers man on the plaza

Last night, Saturday May 21 2005, Arcata police officer Ed Cashman tazered a young man on the plaza in downtown Arcata.
Ten eye-witnesses who all observed the attack all reported the same sequence of events:
- the cop orders the man to "come here"
- the man starts to walk away, displaying NO violent or aggressive behavior
- the cop tazers the man

For an eye-witness account of what happened, check out the indybay article on the waeb, at:

As for the captain's nonsensical exageration and generalization, well, everyone is welcome to have an opinion.

For those reading this blog from out of the area, please note that this incident did indeed get coverage by the local newspapers a couple of weeks after the fact, and an investigation of the incident is under way. Not only that, but one city council member here in Arcata has already called for banning taser-use in Arcata.

The use of tasers and other not-as-lethal weapons is a nation-wide issue of concern, that goes hand-in-hand with POLICE BRUTALITY.

Many thanks to "indybay.org," an INDEPENDMENT MEDIA CENTER on the internet that helped to get this story out and prevent it from being swept under the rug.

Maybe they should have zapped him again and again, just because! Stop being a tick on the ass of the human race.
