Why does Humboldt County spend a quarter of its money hooking people on mental health drugs?

Peace be with you.

Whistleblower magazine released an article titled, "MANIA; The shocking link between psychiatric drugs, suicide, violence and mass murder." It mentions that these nut pills create this "mania" in 4% of short term trial patients. Also they list the following examples:

Andrea Yates, in one of the most heartbreaking crimes in modern history, drowned all five of her children aged 7 years down to 6 months in a bathtub. Insisting inner voices commanded her to kill her kids, she had become increasingly psychotic over the course of several years.
Yates had been taking the antidepressant Effexor. In November 2005, more than four years after Yates drowned her children, Effexor manufacturer Wyeth Pharmaceuticals quietly added "homicidal ideation" to the drug's list of "rare adverse events." But "rare" is defined by the FDA as occurring in less than one in 1,000 people. And since, according to an Associated Press report, about 19.2 million prescriptions for Effexor were filled in the U.S. alone in 2005, that means statistically almost 20,000 Americans could experience "homicidal ideation" that is, murderous thoughts as a result of taking just this one antidepressant drug.

Columbine mass-killer Eric Harris was taking the widely prescribed antidepressant Luvox when he and fellow student Dylan Klebold went on a hellish school shooting rampage in 1999, killing 12 students and a teacher and wounding 24 others before turning their guns on themselves.

Authorities investigating Cho Seung-Hui, who murdered 32 at Virginia Tech in April, reportedly found "prescription drugs" for the treatment of psychological problems among his possessions. Joseph Aust, Cho's roommate, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch Cho's routine each morning had included taking prescription drugs.
So what kind of meds had Cho been taking? Strangely, his medical records have yet to be released to the public authorities claiming it's because an investigation is still ongoing, although critics suggest the purpose may be to protect the drug companies from liability claims.

Meanwhile, the list of killers who happened to be taking psychiatric medications is long and chilling. Remember these headline names?

Patrick Purdy's 1989 schoolyard shooting rampage in Stockton, Calif., was the catalyst for the legislative frenzy to ban "semiautomatic assault weapons" in California and the nation. The 25-year-old Purdy, who murdered five children and wounded 30, had been on Amitriptyline, an antidepressant, as well as the antipsychotic drug Thorazine.

Kip Kinkel, 15, murdered his parents in 1998 and the next day went to his school, Thurston High in Springfield, Ore., and opened fire on his classmates, killing two and wounding 22 others. He had been prescribed both Prozac and Ritalin.

In 1988, 31-year-old Laurie Dann went on a shooting rampage in a second-grade classroom in Winnetka, Ill., killing one child and wounding six. She had been taking the antidepressant Anafranil as well as Lithium, long used to treat mania.

In Paducah, Ky., in late 1997, 14-year-old Michael Carneal, son of a prominent attorney, traveled to Heath High School and started shooting students in a prayer meeting taking place in the school's lobby, killing three and leaving another paralyzed. Carneal reportedly was on Ritalin.

In 2005, 16-year-old Native American Jeff Weise, living on Minnesota's Red Lake Indian Reservation, shot and killed nine people and wounded five others before killing himself. Weise had been taking Prozac.

In another famous case, 47-year-old Joseph T. Wesbecker, just a month after he began taking Prozac, shot 20 workers at Standard Gravure Corp. in Louisville, Ky., killing nine. Eli Lilly, which makes Prozac, later settled a lawsuit brought by survivors.

I wonder if the psychiatrists of today and the psychiatrists of Nazi Germany are really all that different.

Peace be upon you

You left out home many of these mass murderers where also smoking pot.

The infamous killer of Polly said he was smoking some "good weed" just before he kidnapped the young girl and murdered her. What about that. And I saw that part of his confession on the A & E channel.

Have you researched what high levels of THC does to a person? To a peson suffereing from depression?

Peace be with you 8:12 am

Yes, I left out how many were smoking pot because I agree with the experts that pot smoking is not a common link between mass murders. If "pot smoking" was a cause of these kind of horrific murder sprees then it would of been a phenomenon when I was in school and almost every one I knew smoked pot.

No my friend if pot was going to cause this then it would have started in the early 70's with the increase of pot smoking, not when anti-psychotics became the new preferred mental health treatment.

Like William Randolph Hearst, your spin is based on bigotry. While no science points to marijuana as causing violence, all science, including the pharmaceutical corporation's own studies and test trials, show a definite increase in violence among users of SSRIs.

I realize that a new breed of anti-marijuana spin-doctors have come forward since the people have demanded medical marijuana. Harry Aslinger testified before congress in 1936 that marijuana was responsible for violent crimes, and again in 1948 he testified before congress marijuana would lead to a country vulnerable to communist takeover because it would make us a nation of pacifists. Which is it?

Marijuana, mothers milk, or sunshine may be commonly shared attributes to many social ills, but the mountains of empirical evidence that anti-psychotics physically destroy the brain is conclusive. Black box warnings from the FDA points to suicidal thinking and behavor.

Most people find relief from depression by smoking pot. I have met a few people who claim marijuana decreases certain aspects of their mental serenity, like paranoia over getting arrested for smoking pot.

Obviously you are not among the half the adult population in this country who smokes pot, but for the sake of your fellow employees and/or students I pray you're not among the growing nut-pill popping population either.

The first sentence in today's wall street journal, concerning yesterday's Illinois Deadly shooting read:

"The man who gunned down five people at Northern Illinois University in a suicidal rampage became erratic after halting his medication and carried a shotgun to campus inside a guitar case, police said Friday."

i also heard that he was "off his meds" mentioned in a news article (on the radio). But what they spent a lot more time elaborating on was that he got his guns LEGALLY, continuingly emphasizing how legal these guns were...sounds like a media push towards taking the guns out of the hands of the citizenry, which is definitely a step towards martial law.

Peace transient

I thought the same thing when I read the WSJ article. The Hegelian Dialectic, or what poverty pimps call a using a "trigger event to create a paradigm shift" is a documented use of social control.

No Mr Tadeous I don't smoke dope. But then I don't take anything but a few vitamins and sometimes Aleve.

Don't think you were around in the 60' & 70's Tad. Pot back then didn't have the THC content the pot has today. And besides not everyone that smokes pot is going to be a stoner freak, just like not everyone that drinks will be an abusive alchol.

Manson and his crowd were pot smokers too?

Peace be with you Mr Tadeous person

First I said that I didn't think you smoked dope, so you should of said "Yes, Mr. Tadeous I don't smoke dope," or No, Mr. Tadeous I do smoke dope." As it stands it is too confusing for me to comprehend.

Sorry you got such bunk weed in high school. I'm sure that is why we are even having this refer madness conversation now.

Your opinions are so bazaar I have trouble believing your serious. Yes I have "researched what high levels of THC does to a person," and I can promise you shooting up a school is the last thing you would ever think of doing.

Charles Manson was born and raised in prison, his mom being incarcerated at the time of his birth. His drug was a vicious and malicious world view. The chemicals he and his small band of followers were taking were LSD and later meth. The killings started after the meth use started.

I think more thc in pot makes a person more passive...

Mental health is the cause of homelessness? or drugs the cause of mental health? Is the homeless going to lose their freedom and get drugs forced on them?.
I don't get it.
But I tell you what I do get.My childhood friend David Hendrickson (age 17) told us that he was going to jail for two pot plants.1973 and violation of probation. (he had earlier been with a boy who had caused a fire in the Marin County courthouse.
He had been in jail earlier and had admitted to pretending to be crazy so he could go to Napa State and watch TV and such.
Well one time, they shot him up with Thorazine and he had a paradoxical response. where instead of calming him down, it made him sick and combative. So they just gave him more, even though he is sensitive to it. he could not talk and he wet himself for the next two years.they had him tied up. Now since July 1973 he is still in Napa State. His original sentence was
two years. And as of 2003 they were still giving him Thorazine. Plus about 5 or 6 other drugs.
They say he cannot get out cus he has brain damage. But when I get there before his lunch medicine he is coherent. Tells me he has been their since July 1973 and talks fine. talking about the medical mafia
